Promoting the CD "ALTERNATIVE BLUES"----featuring "Ron Overcash and the Nu Blooz Band"---see bios.
The songs on this CD represent a unique blend of Blues, Rhythm & Blues, Rock, Jazz, and Country; that may be unlike most music you've heard before. The CD was recorded during 2002 and 2003 in Chicago, by the musicians listed here, as a fun project; and this is the results.
"ALTERNATIVE BLUES"--------a contradiction in terms that describe the songs contained in this compilation, but still unmistakeably "Blues":
--"Everybody Gets The Blues"-- "Divorce Blues"-- "Train(of blues)"-- and "Sweet Daddy"--; all have a traditional sound--with harmonica and slide guitar providing some heavy fills to give a beefier than normal presentation.
The Instrumental --"Infatuation"--, was just a groove we were playing that William Greene"( formally of the"Susan Tedeschi Band") happened to drop into the session and laid multi-traks to give this one a completely different feel.
The blues rock --"Motorcycle Song"--, was written more than 20 years ago as a commercial for submission to Harley Davidson Motorcycles, but was not used. The slide guitar gives this one a Texas Blues flavor.
And then there's the 'not so traditional'--"Lowdown"--, --"Don't Hurry Sundown"--, and the instrumental --"Blue Arandas"--; but all have traditional influences.
--"Centerfold"-- is the rap--blues--funk--r&b song.
--"Song For Randall"-- sounds more like a country song that is misplaced on this CD, but no, after all--it is "ALTERNATIVE BLUES".
The synthesized horn arrangement by Anthony Space, gave --"You Are So Beautiful"-- a more jazz swing feel to it, making it a personal favorite.
--"Hot Mama"--has a New Orleans flavor to it.
The harmonica player on Divorce Blues and Sweet Daddy was Joe Zaklin.
